Connect Groups
Although we regularly have Bible teaching during our Sunday services, supported with ideas on how to apply it to our faith and our daily living, we find that small groups are invaluable. In small groups, relationships are built up as people talk about the ups and downs of their lives. Group members can pray for each other as well as taking an interest and offering help, when they know each others' situations.
Each weekday evening and on three mornings, we have one or two groups meeting somewhere in the local area. Sometimes all the groups are encouraged to follow a single theme or course. Most recently "Freedom in Christ" has been used as a group teaching tool, helping change many lives for the better. Purpose Driven courses "40 Days of Purpose" and "40 Days of Community" have also been helpful to us in recent years. The rest of the time, groups choose what to study, perhaps a particular theme or book of the Bible.
Another small group in the church is the internationally used introduction to the Christian faith: Alpha. We aim to run courses each autumn and spring term, with possibly more informal sessions during the summer months. Again, many people have found examining the basics of the Christian faith - looking at questions such as Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? and How and why should I pray? - has helped them start their own personal journey with God, or enabled them to grow in the relationship they already had with him.
We call our small groups CONNECT GROUPS because we see them as a way of connecting members' lives together, as well as connecting individuals more closely with God. We see them as a crucial part of the way our church is run and our people receive encouragement and teaching.
